The recent data from law ministry has signify the rise in the cases where Central Government is a party after demonitisation, GST implementation and new taxation upshot.

While in UPA tenure the significant rise appeared in 2012 and 2013 sessions.
But momentous to the change in central government during 2014, the no, of cases were highest,where central government was party, which is 4748

The number of total lawsuits in which government is involved is 1,35,060.
Among which Railway ministry contributes the highest number of cases, ie., 66,685 lawsuits out of which 10,464 have spend more than ten years in court room and are still going on. Other ministries with the big numbers of pending cases are finance (15,651), communications (12,642), home affairs (11,668), defense (3,433) and health & family welfare (3,275) all are leading and still not out.

When the players in court room are raising runs the Solicitor general of India is still to be decide to field.
Who is Solicitor general of India?
The Solicitor General of India is the secondary law officer of the country, assists the Attorney General, and is himself assisted by several Additional Solicitors General of India. They all advise the Government and appear on behalf of the Union of India in terms of the Law Officers (Terms and Conditions) Rules, 1972.
The position of Attorney General is constitutional position under Art. 76 of the constitution, decide by President of India under 76(1) of the constitution, but the position of solicitor general is statutory and decided by Prime Minister of India.

Ranjit Kumar was the last Solicitor general of India, until he resigned in the month of October,2017.
The law ministry has sent file recommending the names for Solicitor general position, which are Aman Lekhi, Madhvi Diwan, Sandeep Sethi and Bikramjeet Banerjee to the Prime Minister’s Office for final approval.
