Does laziness run in your family? Study suggests it could be hereditary

Laziness can run in family

Generations after generations, brain became (got) dedicated towards survival.

Brains dedication lead it to reward humans after every act of food, sex, and exercise with dopamine.

So, if people are genetically wired to chocolates, exercise, trekking, chilies, sugar or their brain will crave as a drug addict.

The strong reception in the gene can cause specific intense desire.

Sometimes the strong reception within a gene can also cause you the label, “COUCH POTATO”.

Yes! As traits of procrastination, impulsivity and work ethic, “LAZINESS” can be inherited from genes.

There is a gene for laziness

The Institute of Genetics and Developmental Biology in Beijing and the University of Aberdeen has discovered a genetic mutation called SLC35D3 which produces a protein that can interfere the brain’s dopamine system. Dopamine system in our bodies is responsible for triggering cells to incept movements.

The study was conducted on two groups of mice, named group “A” mice and group “B” mice. Among both, group “A” mice picked to run on the wheel more often than the other group “B”. Scientists found that this simple preferred behavior has an obvious impact on their offspring.

After ten generations, the offspring of the group “A” mice, who preferred to run more often were found to possess and behave the similar trait.

The group “A” offspring run 75% more often than the other group “B”.

What is more astonishing is that after 16th generations, the group “A” mice run seven miles a day compared to the average group “B” mice who run four miles a day.

This study observed that our being motivational for physical labor depends on our genetic anatomy. We can probably inherit endurance gene from our parents. So, if our parents are dedicated to aerobics and physical health, we are more likely to inherit part of that gene and be dedicated to physical activities or endurance.

Apart from that, the study also observed that the group A mice who preferred to run more often has a stronger dopamine system throughout generations.

Hence mice can be genetically addictive to running if born with such genes. The same goes for humans. So, scientifically, workaholic parents will birth and nurture workaholic children and vice versa.

What are gene?

Genes are protein makers responsible for causing different functions and behavior.

But as nothing in life is absolute, so are genes. Working hard on our perceptions, we can change the expressions of our genes or can express new genes.

Start slow and keep building endurance levels up, to change your genes.

In another research, Harvard University and the University of Arizona put some mice on a workout routine and found that the process activated new genes and increased levels of substances that promote tissue growth and health, including a protein called brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), which enhances cognitive function such as learning and memory.

So, scientist made mice to activate new genes just by changing the workout routine.

Same concept is applied on human’s genome, we can also express new genes just by jogging our memory more or breaking a leg on Despacito.
